Inspired by the fashion of Qipao, or cheongsams worn during the early 20th century, the guestrooms at Cordis Shanghai present an interplay of clean, contemporary design with reinterpreted Chinese motifs. A silk panelled headboard features motifs framed with persimmon orange piping and traditional Pankou buttons. The concept is open plan, with sliding timber wall panels for optional privacy. Championing functionality, the design replaces the typical guestroom desk with a round, cantilevered table to be used for work, in-room dining or occasional table.
