Located in the Arenal Volcano National Park, the year-round Nayara Tented Camp is one of the first luxury camps in Central America and boasts an environmentally low-impact yet high-touch design which fully immerses guests in the majestic rainforest. The 25 air-conditioned accommodations (of the 31 planned), each generously sized at 1,496 square feet, have been built at a higher altitude on the undulating hillsides to invite in unobstructed views of the spectacular volcano.
The client’s brief was to create a luxury tented experience within a Costa Rican context to optimize a genuine sense of place as well as foster a sense of adventure. Luxury evident in every detail, Nayara Resorts and Luxury Frontiers collaborated for three years to design a light-on-earth floating structure, achieving the highest level of luxury and experiential accommodation. Efforts included the reforesting of the surrounding area to further nurture Nayara’s own sloth sanctuary, reaffirming Nayara Tented Camp’s leadership in the ever-growing experiential travel movement and elevating Costa Rica’s adventure and nature-based hospitality landscape.
Among other activities, the Camp’s nature lovers can participate in sloth sanctuary tours and morning bird-watching walks with Nayara’s expert nature guide and ‘Sloth Concierge’ team. Through Nayara’s reforestation of the area, the new tented camp will expand the property’s sloth sanctuary to over 1,000 Cecropia tress (the sloth’s main food source) from the current 300 trees. With the addition of the Camp, Nayara Resorts will consist of three properties, including Nayara Springs and Nayara Gardens, all of which are connected by footbridges.
